About 1,700 people live in this town at the mouth of the Brunswick River.  During the holiday season nearly 2,000 more are accommodated here.  They are attracted by the fishing village flavour of the place, the riverside caravan parks and the truly superb beaches.

A rocky headland protects the river entrance such that the bar is navigable much of the time and an extensive estuary supports oyster farms and sport fishing.  Brunswick Bucaneers Boat Hire can provide fishing gear and licensed boats, canoes, surf skis, and surf bikes to explore the estuary and river, while for land lubbers the Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve just north of the river, has a small picnic area with tables and public toilets, accessible via a road winding through littoral rainforest, along the river bank.

The fishing co-operative and its attendant fleet are the biggest business in town and tourism is expanding into nature based and ecotourism operations.

Accommodation is primarily caravan parks, motels and modest holiday flats, with a growing B&B presence in the hinterland, while access to the Nature Reserves and National Parks is through Mullumbimby about 10 km away.

A little further north, Ocean Shores and New Brighton are delightful residential areas, and a visit to the award winning Humble Pie Co., on the corner of the Pacific Highway at Billinudgel, is a must on any visit! Community Markets are held on the 1st Saturday each month, with the Fish & Chips Festival in January and Kites & Bikes Festival in March.  Information on dog exercise areas, walks and dog friendly businesses can be found here.

Getting here is easy (see link below). Ballina Airport is the southern gateway to Northern New South Wales, with regular flights from all major Australian cities, and daily airport shuttle services, which also operate to Gold Coast and Brisbane International Airports.  Interstate coach services provide daily travel. NSW State rail (Countrylink or Sunstate) coach travel goes to Casino, for transfer to Sydney-Brisbane train services.  Local bus services will take you to towns and villages throughout the region. Local tourist information is available at Brunswick Valley Coach & Travel on (02) 6685 1385.
