Events, Festivals and Shows
Every town and village has its own cultural events and celebrations, which give the region a distinctive flavour and flair. Often, these events are just for the locals to celebrate common histories and interests.
And sometimes, these events become well known outside the local area and attract visitors from near and far to enjoy and share the local culture.
We hope you'll join us, and see you there!
Listed below are a few of the more well established events, and maybe some newer ones too. It is not a complete list of all events are occuring in the region.
Most events, festivals, shows, agricultural shows and field days are scheduled well in advance, but weather and other unforeseen events may still result in postponments or cancellations. Please check directly with organisers to confirm registration and booking deadlines, and event updates, should unavoidable events occur.

Events, Festivals and Shows
Established in 1890, the Murwillumbah Show is an annual agricultural show held on the first weekend in November at the Murwillumbah Showground. The show is a great family day out with FREE gate entry (a Gold Coin donation is appreciated), and includes the usual sideshow alley, a full Pavilion competition schedule, horse events on both days and a trotting programme on Saturday. Monster fireworks and a Rodeo feature on Friday night.
Date: 1st weekend November.
Gold Coast Theatre Alliance is the directory for live theatre and performances in the Ballina, Byron, Tweed and Gold Coast region, with upcoming shows and seasons, online bookings for performances, audition notices and links to local theatre groups.
The Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra is a unique, premier community orchestra in regional Australia.
The orchestra has been delighting musical audience in the Gold Coast – Tweed region since the early 1990s. Over the years, the NRSO has performed a range of concerts from chamber ensembles to full-scale ballet productions.
The orchestra offers preformances ranging from classics and opera through to movie soundtracks and Pops. Ticket prices depend on the venue, and are generally around $50 for Adults, Concession $45, Students 18+ $20, School students free when accompanied by adult.

The Lismore Symphony orchestra was formed in 2003 from a group of dedicated musicians living in the Northern Rivers. Our goal is to bring classical orchestral music to the people of the Northern Rivers and we do that with our two concert series each year.
Totally self funded, it receives its money from ticket sales, members fees and donations. LSO is made up of a wonderful team of musicians who volunteer their time to come together to make music and then perform that music for you. It is with great delight that we do this and we look forward to making more music for you with your support.

Regional town shows usually occur on Friday and Saturday with two show days for livestock judging and breeding animals displays, agricultural and produce displays (accompanied by cooking competitions), showjumping, and other competitive events. Smaller villages will hold shows for a full day on a Saturday or Sunday only. Larger events will include agricultural machinery and equipment stands and displays.

Arts, Cultural Events and Music Festivals
Most local councils now have dedicated Events and Festivals web sites, where locals can find things to do, and visitors can see what's happening during their stay.
Local event organisers can also register, and create an online listing for their event.
